Alice in Wonderland

Tie One On is having an Alice in Wonderland apron contest to win a sewing book.  I'm entering the contest because its just a great challenge for me to come up with my own Alice in Wonderland apron style.  My idea was to come up with a style that would make the wearer feel like it was a complete costume without adding anything to the apron.  It's complete with the light blue apron skirt and light blue strap cap like sleeve.

Also is included is the white pinfore apron on top of the apron skirt for the feel of wearing an apron. So its really an apron on top of another apron.  I've also linked up with the blog Everything Etsy!

Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil

Today was an alarming day.  I went over to the Etsy forum to learn that one of the Etsy treasuries, on the Treasury East had indecent items on display.  A fellow team member alerted the Etsy Adminstration only to learn that didn't violate any polices.  It was further noted that because this team continued to discuss this issue and their concerns they, Etsy Administration, closed the specific forum that was discussing this issue.  The team never named the sellers by name or even the name of the specific treasury either.  It's like the old saying hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil.

It's funny how good is shut down will indecenty is allowed to prevail.  Funny, when I've been on Myspace and Facebook they do have regulations about indecent pictures but Etsy does not.  I just don't understand their reasoning.  I guess its suppose to be freedom of expression.

Etsy used to have deplayed an indecent item with white out over the item of exposure to protect the innocent viewers.  But now it seems that anything is fair game.  What ever happened to family friendly sites.  I always thought etsy was more family friendly like the other major sites like Myspace and Facebook.

Some etsy team members have decided to leave etsy.  At this time I will not be leaving etsy.  I have to look at it like this:  If I was participating in a craft fair and there were indecent items what would I do?  I would walk away and not go to that booth, but I would continue to attend the fair because that is where the public is attending.   It's a choice like everything else.  I choose to have decent and moral items and others choose to not.  But I will continue to do what I feel is best to do for me as you must decide to do what is best for you.

The Beauty of Jacksonville!

I got the opporunity to go to Jacksonville, FL last week. It was a fun and relaxing time. I was in desperate need of some R&R. I went for a walk every morning and was able to enjoy the beautiful river walk along the St. Johns River.

The beauty of the scenic walk along St. John's.

.
Bronze runner statue to commemorate the many people who run along the St. John's and the many fund raising runs. And my silly husband competing with the statue for the evening run.

"Our Dreams Live on in Our Children."

Every day there were more boats parked along the river walk.  In the morning the walk would be bare but by noon when the resturants along the landing were open the boats would be there with guests or merchants from the resturants and shops.  Boats were used as transporation for many shops and resturants to go back and forth across the river.  Past the Landing were several business who also had boats for transportation.

At least 4 bridges are along the St. John's maybe more but this was all I saw from where we were staying.  They are like freeways or highways there.  One bridge was for the train to cross over the river.  It would cross at least twice daily with business supplies and UPS delieveries too.  The train bridge was very old and rustic and would raise and lower for train crossing from a horizontal to vertical.  The blue bridge would slide up and down in the middle it, it would always stay horizontal, was an amazing sight to see a bridge move in this new way.

The Jacksonville landing was the local hang out for the down town buisness district.  Resturants and shops surround the center of the landing.  This is the fountain and band stand at the center of the landing.

This is the reason I got to go to Jacksonville, the ICAC team had a training seminar to attend and I went along for R&R.  They do their best to keep our children safe from predators.

In Honor of Mother's Day!

How God created Mother

God took the fragrance of a flower,
The majesty of a tree
The gentleness of morning dew,
The calm of the quietest sea,
The beauty of the twilight hour,
The soul of a starry night,
The laughter of a rippling brook,
The grace of a bird in flight,
Then God fashioned from these things,
A creation like no other,
He called it simply MOTHER!
