Rebirth of Fashion

Most of today's fashions are recreations of era's gone by.
The fashion runways have recreated or redesigned prior years fashions.
The latest craze is the 1940's and 1950's.
I too have decided to design and fashion many of my accessories
after previous years for an rebirth of fashion style.

Which Barbie Are You?

I saw this the other day on Facebook and had to share.
Which Barbie look are you?
I love the retro and rockabilly pinup look.
I'm a brunette but the ones here don't have my hairstyle that I like to wear.
I like the blonde in the upper right hand corner for my favorite hair style.
Love that blonde bombshell look but it works work for brunettes too!
Share you with us which Barbie are you?

Reinventing Myself

Sometimes I think when someone is over 40 they decide they want to do something different with their life, style, or even rethink who they are and how they want to express themselves. I think this idea has been developing in me for a time now and I have finally decided to act upon it.

Lately,  I have been thinking about my style and what I wear. I think it started with me designing headbands to match my aprons, which are vintage styled.  I made retro scarf headbands and with these I decided I wanted to wear them myself too because they look so cute.  But I only made myself  two and the faze didn't last long.

About a couple of  weeks ago I came across a blog called "Reinvent Yourself."  And I thought this is it, I want to reinvent myself.  What a novel idea, try something new, have fun with life and try a new style.  I love the vintage clothing and the fun of  dressing up, so this could be an all new style, a new me.

Since I love vintage and make vintage styled aprons and headbands, I have decided on the rockabilly style of  40's to 50's fashion era.  I just love the look and how fun and flirty the style can be.  Here I have posted some of my fashion attempts of rockabilly.  I do have capris and tight jeans too,  but right now its so hot I don't wear them much and stick to more dresses than anything.

Most women who wear the rockabilly look wear those pretty spiked heels but at my age I have feet problems so I can't wear those and wear either flats or small heels that are a vintage styled.  I think I'm still making the look work with the shoes I have.  Tell me what you think.

Is The Beatles' Fashion Style Back In?

On the way home from Zumba today I saw two nicely dressed Asian men, they were sporting what I call the Beatles look.  They had the long hair, sport coat, and straight legged black jeans, (could have even been skinny jeans.) They really looked sharp.

Not the usual grudge, skater or gansta look but a nice sopshicated look.  I know I'm older than some but I do find it refreshing to see a man dressed nice.  I don't mind a little longer hair like when the Beatles  when they where first starting out or like Justin Bieber as long as its clean and nicely combed.

Here's a little Beatles song for your listening pleasure!

What is organza?

Many times people shop and buy items and not really know what type a fabric is made of and the uniqueness of the fabric. Today I've chosen to tell you about organza since it is what several vintage aprons are made of.

This is from blueribbons.co.uk

Originally a lightweight silk fabric, organza is a plain weave that is created using nylon, polyester, and silk or a blend of any of the three which results in a translucent look. Nowadays, though many organzas are woven with synthetic filament fibers such as polyester or nylon, the most luxurious organzas are still woven in silk.

Chinese organza is still often made completely from silk filaments. Italian and French organza is generally sturdier and often includes nylon filaments as a blend with the silk. Organza produced in India and the United States often uses a mixture of nylon and polyester to create usable organza that is both cost effective and smooth to the touch.

Organza has a number of uses around the house. They are great for window treatments, adding a romantic touch to the bedroom by applying as a netting over the bed, draping over lap shades and suspending and draping over the walls. Make sure to use the lamps that have low wattage so that the organza doesn't burn. They also can be used as room dividers too.

When it comes to attire, organza is a staple of formal dresses and other feminine wardrobe items. Wraps that are overlaid with organza can produce a sophisticated look that will draw many admiring eyes. One of the main uses of organza is in the creation of wedding dresses that help to make the big day all the more special. Between wedding attire and uptown evening fashions, organza has a secure future in the world of fashion.
